WaveKat Voice is a desktop softphone that signs in to your FRITZ!Box as an IP phone, so you can make and take calls on the landline numbers the box already has — from your Mac, Windows or Linux computer, with every call recorded and transcribed automatically. It needs no new provider and is free during the public beta. It works while your computer is on the same home or office network as the box. A call flow can answer the calls you cannot take, with a greeting and voicemail.
There are two parts: add an IP phone on the FRITZ!Box, then sign in to it from WaveKat Voice, where FRITZ!Box is in the guided provider list and the box’s address is filled in for you.
Prefer to enter it by hand? Use the IP phone’s username and password, with fritz.box as the domain — or the box’s own address, 192.168.178.1 by default, if fritz.box doesn’t work. Leave the other settings as they are. Pick FRITZ!Box in WaveKat Voice and the domain is filled in for you.

A FRITZ!Box is a home and office router that doubles as a small phone system: it holds your landline numbers and lets the phones on your network use them, including up to 10 IP phones. For smartphones and tablets, FRITZ! offers its own free FRITZ!App Fon — and any SIP softphone, such as WaveKat Voice, can sign in as an IP phone while it is on the same network as the box.
Yes. Add an IP phone on the FRITZ!Box, then sign in to it from a SIP softphone on your computer. WaveKat Voice has FRITZ!Box in its guided provider list, runs on Mac, Windows and Linux, and records and transcribes every call automatically. Your computer has to be on the same network as the box.
In the FRITZ!Box user interface (fritz.box), go to Telefonie → Telefoniegeräte → Neues Gerät einrichten, choose Telefon and then LAN/WLAN (IP-Telefon). Pick a username and a password of at least 8 characters each — the password clearly different from the username — choose the outgoing and incoming numbers, and save with Übernehmen. The box may ask you to confirm on the box itself.
Not directly. The FRITZ!Box only accepts IP phones from its own network, and not from its guest network. FRITZ! advises against allowing sign-in from the internet; connect to your home network over a VPN instead.
Check that the IP phone’s username and password are each at least 8 characters, and that your computer is on the main network, not the guest network. If fritz.box doesn’t work as the domain, use the box’s address, 192.168.178.1 by default. If it still fails, FRITZ! recommends deleting the IP phone, restarting the box, and setting it up again.
By default, the FRITZ!Box only lets IP phones call domestic and emergency numbers. Allow other destinations under Telefonie → Eigene Rufnummern → Anschlusseinstellungen → Sicherheit.
Yes. Dial ** followed by a phone’s internal number, listed under Telefonbuch → Interne Nummern on the box, or **9 to ring them all. The FRITZ!Box takes up to 10 IP phones, including any FRITZ!App Fon.
The FRITZ!App Fon is for Android and iOS phones and tablets. On a computer, use a SIP softphone signed in as an IP phone: WaveKat Voice runs on Mac, Windows and Linux (on Windows 10 and 11 from the Microsoft Store), and PhonerLite runs on Windows.
Yes. A call flow answers the line for you with a greeting, checks your opening hours, offers a phone menu, takes a message, or transfers the call — and the message is recorded and transcribed like any other call, so you can read it instead of listening back. You can also pick the call up while someone is still leaving one. The greeting, taking a message and ringing you are free; phone menus, opening hours and transfers are part of Pro, free for a year during early access. The flow runs on your own computer, so the app has to be running for it to answer — otherwise the call rings your other phones or goes to the FRITZ!Box answering machine, if you have one set up.
